"We're trying to be fair to business," said Rep. Deborah Hudson, R-Fairthorne, who is sponsoring Senate Bill 99 in the House with Rep. Robert J. Valihura Jr., R-Edenridge Bovine excrement is one of the nicer things I can say about this comment.

I had an interesting conversation with the County GOP chairman about an hour ago about this Bill.

Why don't the sponsors of this legislation just go ahead and emblazen "Heil Hitler" as their official motto?
Good God, folks, this is the arrogance and government power unlike any I've ever seen (CFR exempted!)
They want to make it a
FEDERAL
CRIME
for me to SMOKE in a BOWLING ALLEY?????
I don't smoke, but by God, I WILL light up just test this idiocy if it ever becomes law.
Thankfully, it won't pass.

" 'We're trying to be fair to business,' said Rep. Deborah Hudson, R-Fairthorne, who is sponsoring Senate Bill 99 in the House with Rep. Robert J. Valihura Jr., R-Edenridge.
"Valihura has said he will propose an amendment to the Senate-approved version of the bill. He wants to ban smoking in all public buildings, including bars, casinos, restaurants, pool halls, bowling alleys and hotels.
" 'Our goal is to have equal public spaces,' he said." Sure. Sounds "equal"...but "equal to WHOM??? Can we say "dis-crim-in-AA-shun"? I knew we could. Doesn't Delaware have sin taxes like all the rest of the states do? If so, won't Delaware be losing money with this stupid bill?

You are what we like to call a "political niccer"
There is no need to light one up - just be willing to have an unlit one in your possesion.
We've heard unbelievable stories about anti-smoker nanniests complaining about people with unlit cigarettes.
thank you for your support.

Kick us out into the street and expect us to pay for the privilege.

These politicians just dont understand that Bowlers work and train very hard to stay in prime conditions so they can complete in a bowling league. Bowlers are our nations most highly conditioned athletes making the likes of Michael Jordan, Randy Johnson, and Shaq look like couch potatoes. Since Bowlers work as hard as they do to stay in top condition I see no reason why we should ban smoking in their bowling arenas.

"Correct on all counts. The way they plan on handling that is a 50cent a pack tax increase on smokers."Wouldn't hiking the tax on a commodity that people aren't allowed to use be rather stupid?

Not Federal crime. State crime.

Thanks, HiTech....I read/browsed too quickly. This might pass, and that would be a shame for the people of Delaware.

This bill cries out for amendments. The first would be to prohibit Channel #5. It contains a chemical that precipitates uncontrollable urges to urinate in certain susceptible individuals.
The second would prohibit releases of methane in enclosed space, particularly elevators. Just let some Democrat vote for that one, eh?!

"...to ban smoking in all public buildings, including bars, casinos, restaurants, pool halls, bowling alleys and hotels." When and what is the constitutional jurisdiction that made PRIVATE PROPERTY, "public buildings."
Public buildings are schools, courthouses, police stations, fire stations, parks, etc.
Section 8, of the Delaware Bill of Rights states:
"...nor shall any man's property be taken or applied to public use without the consent of his representatives, and without compensation being made."
You Freepers in Delaware better get to work holding your legislature accountable to your Bill of Rights.
And if that part of the state constitution is not enough, your federal constitution has jurisdiction within your state:
AMENDMENT IX:
"The enumeration in the Constitution, of certain rights, SHALL NOT BE CONSTRUED TO DENY OR DISPARAGE others retained by the people."
The people have the right to smoke on public property at all times, and the private property owner has the right to allow smoking on his/her property at any time.

Gabz, I'm sure most of us have misplaced the names and addresses of folks we wrote last year. P'raps you could post them again and we could let these folks hear from those on the other side of this issue.

THey banned smoking in all bars in a town near me. One of Health Commissioners said, after listening to barowners "Economic impact is not my consideration;the health of the general population is."
I don't know why they cannot leave the decision to the owner, the franchisee or the CorpHQ if a chain. Only 25-30% of the population smokes, but they drink more, stay longer and tip better, according to bartenders. Plus, it's so silly, Bars of all places. They're the only places left, or were.
